Welcome to spring in
God’s country,
Central
Oregon.
Well the good news is that the mountains are
full of snow so water is not a problem this year and grain and hay,
prices are staying up. The bad news is that fuel, fertilizer and
major inputs are up in price as well.
Unfortunately, there is only one way to sum
up this year’s fertilizer markets -- crazy. We almost decided not to
print a price sheet this year as we were getting increases on all
Fertilizer products several times a week. We hope that we are reaching
the peak for fertilizer pricing but that may only be wishful
thinking as demand is high and supply is on the short side. On the other hand, commodity
prices have been climbing to record highs as of recent, giving much
optimism to a profitable year even with the increased costs of
fertilizers.
CHS has many services available to you such
as agronomy consulting, grass seed contracts, agronomy inputs,
product application, white wheat storage and marketing, alfalfa and
grain seeds, GPS guidance tower and systems, and up to date agronomy
information. We are here to help you make the best agronomy
decisions throughout the year.
There are still many opinions on the adequate
amount of Nitrogen required to achieve maximum yield and protein in
Red Wheat. Current
research confirms that providing ample nitrogen is necessary in
order to achieve high protein in DNS. We recommend applying 2.8
#/N per bushel of wheat yield goal and adding 3 gallons of Coron
slow release N at flag leaf with your fungicide for disease and
protein enhancement.
CHS is sorry to say but, we will
not be accepting delivery or storage of DNS (Red Wheat) for
2008, we simply don’t have the storage.
